Biography

“The greater danger for most of us lies not
in setting our aim too high and falling short,
but in setting our aim too low
and achieving our mark.”
Michelangelo

D omini D eane is a self-taught artist, who has been designing fantasy
worlds and creatures since the age of three. Born in 1984 in the Rocky
Mountains of Colorado, she now lives and works in England. Her art
reflects a childhood spent on both sides of the Atlantic, surrounded by
remarkable places, people and animals.

“I just let my pencil tell me who’s come to visit.”

D omini’s unique style has the magical ability to draw you into a story.
Her creatures have a personality, her characters have a soul, and you
immediately want to know more about them. The magnificent costumes,
settings and other exquisite details bring imagination to life, and
delightful touches such as sabre-toothed ducklings, donkeyroos and
winking eyes from a hollow tree captivate children of all ages.

“I want it to feel as if you just happened upon a moment in time.”

D omini’s favourite medium is watercolour with a pinch of fairy dust,
and she states her greatest inspiration is a blank piece of paper. She has
great respect and gratitude for many artists, and gives special thanks to
Jody Bergsma for her example and encouragement, and to Jim Henson
and Walt Disney for their perpetual gifts of magic and imagination.
